ABSENTEE VOTING

(Vote by Mail)

Any registered voter, who prefers to vote by mail, may request an absentee ballot by completing the application on the back cover of the sample ballot or by downloading the application and mailing it to the Registrar of Voters.

Note: You must be registered at an address located within the district of the election at least 15 days prior to that election.

Another way to request an absentee ballot is by writing a letter to:

(Include: The election name, date of election, your name, address, signature, and the address where the absentee ballot should be mailed, if that address is different than your home address.)

An absentee ballot request must be submitted for each election and received by the Registrar’s Office no later than 7 days prior to the election. An individual application or letter is needed for each person requesting an absentee ballot. If you are a Permanent Absentee Voter, you do not have to reapply for an absentee ballot every election. You will receive your absentee ballot, approximately 29 days prior to every election. If you would like to become an absentee voter click here.

Absentee Ballots are available as early as 29 days prior to the election.

Your Absentee Ballot must be received at the Registrar’s Office or at any Polling Place in Orange County before the close of the polls at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

You may choose to return it personally to the Registrar of Voters Office or on Election Day to any Orange County polling place. If you cannot return the ballot personally, you can only designate certain relatives to deliver your absentee ballot for you. These relatives are: spouse, brother or sister, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild or a person residing in the same household as the voter.

OTHER CATEGORIES OF ABSENTEE VOTERS INCLUDE:

Emergency Absentee Voters (ballots issued in the last 6 days prior to or on Election Day).

Military Voters or citizens living temporarily outside of the United States, whose last permanent address was in Orange County, California.

Citizens living permanently outside the United States, whose last United States permanent address was in Orange County, California.
